Sloane Ranger

noun
1
an expression, popular in the 1980s, that was used to refer to a type of upper-class or upper-middle-class young person, usually a woman. Sloane Rangers typically lived in fashionable areas of London such as Chelsea, wore expensive clothes (often ones designed to be worn in the country), and had loud voices and old-fashioned ideas about politics and society. The phrase, invented by a journalist in the 1970s, is a mixture of Sloane Square and the Lone Ranger.
